Enter the details and the certificate rebuilds itself with the statutory wording. There is an optional line for the document's name, which the Secretary of State recommends on any certificate you attach separately.
What is the Wyoming jurat wording?
The Wyoming jurat wording, given as a short form in W.S. 32-3-115, is "Signed and sworn to (or affirmed) before me on (date) by (name(s) of person(s) making statement)," followed by the stamp, the notarial officer's signature and the title-and-rank line. The "(or affirmed)" gives a signer who will not swear an equal option that carries the same weight. Wyoming built its current law on the Revised Uniform Law on Notarial Acts, so the core wording matches neighboring uniform-law states, and the differences are in the signature block rather than the sentence.
State of Wyoming
County of ______
Signed and sworn to (or affirmed) before me on ____________ (date) by ____________ (name(s) of person(s) making statement).
Signature of notarial officer
Title (and Rank): Notary Public
[My commission expires: ______]
Why does the Wyoming certificate say "Title (and Rank)"?
The Wyoming certificate says "Title (and Rank)" because an officer in active military service may perform notarial acts and signs with a military rank rather than the title "Notary Public." For an ordinary commissioned notary the line simply reads Notary Public, so most signers will never fill the rank part. But Wyoming keeps the option printed because service members stationed in the state, or Wyoming residents notarizing on a base, sign in their official military capacity. If you download a jurat built for a state that only prints "Notary Public," you lose nothing by adding the rank option, and a Wyoming form that shows it is simply following the statutory model.
Should you write the document's name on a Wyoming jurat?
Yes, on a loose certificate you should write the document's name, because the Wyoming Secretary of State advises it to stop the certificate from being detached and reused. A jurat printed on its own sheet and stapled to an affidavit can, in the wrong hands, be peeled off and attached to a different record the notary never saw. Naming the document, such as "Affidavit of Residence," ties the certificate to that specific paper and defeats the swap. When the jurat is printed directly below the signature on the document itself, the risk is lower, but the note costs nothing and Wyoming clerks expect to see it on separate certificates.
What is the difference between a jurat and an acknowledgment in Wyoming?
A jurat has the signer swear the contents are true and sign in the notary's presence, while an acknowledgment only confirms the signer admits signing. Affidavits and sworn statements take a jurat; deeds and powers of attorney usually take an acknowledgment. A Wyoming notarial officer can hand you either blank form but cannot pick the act for you, since choosing the certificate for a particular document is legal work. Ask the office that will receive the paper which act it requires, because the wrong certificate is a routine cause of rejection.
| Wyoming jurat | Wyoming acknowledgment |
|---|---|
| Signer swears the contents are true | Signer confirms the signature is theirs |
| Must sign in front of the notary | May have signed earlier |
| Used for affidavits and sworn statements | Used for deeds and powers of attorney |
